About Amerigive

Amerigive Story and Mission Statement

My son, Denis Preka, had a vision in May of 2018 to open his own business, Amerigo Travel. Through Amerigo Travel he wanted to create a charitable organization to help young people.

Denis, who passed away in March 2019, was a kind and loving young man who always wanted to give to others, even if it meant leaving himself penniless. Since high school, Denis was interested in networking and helping others. He was the founder of the Warren De LaSalle Collegiate High School Model UN Club, a club that won many awards. Even when he was working summer jobs at Quicken Loans he volunteered his time with an organization called Summer in the City that helped young people in the city of Detroit.

After his tragic passing one day before his 22nd birthday, we found on his computer all his dreams and goals for his life.
One of which, was the creation of Amerigive. It is our desire to carry on his legacy by fulfilling the dream that was cut short. His love for friends was unlike any other. It was unique in that he gave unconditionally.

Unfortunately, on the night of his death, he was surrounded by three young men he thought were his friends but were unwilling to offer him help as he was taking his last breath. As it turns out, these people were not his friends and it’s become clear that the young people of this generation need help in understanding what true friendship is.

Denis loved travel and knew four languages. He loved learning about other cultures and building bridges between people of diverse backgrounds. It was through this that he learned how to be a true friend to others, and he wanted to share this secret with other young people. By having a place for young people to meet, share cultural interests, share meals and provide opportunities for travel, Amerigive knows that young people will be changed for the better.
